This Dance Is For You, Roy

We love you Roy Heck! You have made my Dad's heart sing and his feet dance. Here's to you.

Dancing Queen (and King)

The first day of events at the Transplant Games was an eventful one for us! Mom and Dad gracefully made their way to the dance floor. Excitement and emotions were high. The music began and Dad effortlessly guided Mom through the twists and turns of a Waltz.

They were amazing. We all sat in awe of my parents; tears rolled down our cheeks from happiness and gratefulness. As the song came to an end we erupted in applause. Their dance made us and Team Texas proud.

We all made our way to the medal ceremony. Mom and Dad had performed their very best, but everyone was ecstatic when they brought home a GOLD MEDAL! Roy's mom Shannon was there to share in the joy with our family.

Mom and Dad's dance instructor Tina joined us for the day as well and took my Dad for a spin on the dance floor during the competition. Guess who brought home a second GOLD MEDAL?

Congratulations to Dad and both of his beautiful dance partners. You made us proud!

Transplat Games are Almost Here!

The 2014 Transplant Games are right around the corner! The games are being held in Houston, so it will be a great opportunity for our entire family to celebrate both Dad and the donors that make these opportunities possible.

The Opening Ceremonies will be held next Saturday, July 12. Also, wish both Mom and Dad luck as they prepare to compete in the ballroom dancing category. That event will also be held on July 12. Lots of pictures coming soon!

I do want to share the picture below. This was taken during the photo session for the Transplant Games. It is of my dad, Mike Nall and his donor's mom, Shannon Lenox. They are holding a picture of his donor, Roy Heck.

Good luck to all of Team Texas!

Four Years and Counting

Well, let's face it. I have done an awful job at posting updates. Somehow life takes over and weeks turn into months and months turn into years. Today marks the 4th anniversary of Dad's transplant. I am not sure anyone can believe that four years have gone by.

Dad has been in good health this last year. Most folks would never know he was on death's door four years ago. As the memories of what life was like before the transplant slowly fall into the more distant past, we sometimes forget how fragile Dad was back then.

This picture was taken last weekend. Doesn't everyone look great?

We rarely think about or talk about Dad's transplant without acknowledging the person that gave our Dad the ultimate gift, Mr. Roy Heck III. Yesterday, today and always we will cherish the memory of Roy and ask God to wrap his family in his love.

On this day four years ago Mike experienced a re-birth. He went into surgery with a weak heart and a frail body. He emerged with a strong heart and a new bond; forever linking him to the man that saved his life. Happy Birthday, Dad.
